Several weeks ago, you learned that there are both perverted, demonic counterfeits as well as pure, God-created spiritual technologies. And you know that the real is your inheritance as God’s child. But, in order to avoid the counterfeit and walk in the real, you must be able to tell the difference between them. Without clear understanding and accurate Scriptural definition of “real vs counterfeit,” we can simply accuse anyone of new age or occult practices who is encountering something that is unfamiliar to us. Thankfully, the answer is clearly presented in the Word of God.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and !nd pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
-John 10:1, 7-10, NKJV
In this passage, Yeshua calls those who enter some other way thieves and robbers. But enter where? This is not talking about entering the door of salvation, for Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). Here, Jesus tells us that when we enter through Him, we are saved and will go in and out. In and out of what? Spiritual realms and dimensions! When Jesus’ flesh was torn, the veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom, removing the separation between us and the Father, but also removing the separation between the dimensions. This passage tells us clearly that men can go in and out, accessing spiritual realms and dimensions, legally (through Him) or illegally (any other way). The point of access is the key difference between the real and the counterfeit. Jesus is the only legitimate Door.
Yeshua presented the same principle again this way:
Many will say to Me in that day, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?” And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!”
-Matthew 7:22-23, NKJV
The word knew in this passage is a word describing knowing, perceiving, feeling, and understanding in the deepest possible sense and is a Jewish idiom for sexual intimacy. Quite simply, Yeshua was acknowledging that it is possible to accomplish miracles apart from Him, but that those who do so are doing it lawlessly. They, like Adam, are bypassing the Tree of Life, eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
It’s all about relationship with our Creator… walking with Him, knowing Him, being known by Him. We do not seek gifts or experiences; we seek Him. But when encounters do emerge from our pursuit, we welcome them and use them to advance His Kingdom here. Because we love Him, we cherish everything that flows from His hand.
If you have not yet been born from above (John 3:3) by giving your life to Christ, will you do so now? Will you appropriate the sacrifice of His shed blood to pay the price for all your sin? Will you trade both your sin and your good works for His perfection? He is THE Way. But will you allow Him to be YOUR new and living way (Hebrews 10:20) into the Father’s heart, into the heavenly realm and into spiritual realms and dimensions? Truly, Jesus is the Door to the wildest adventure, and He is the greatest of loves!
I know that this is very basic, but it is our solid foundation for discerning between the real and the counterfeit. Next time, we’ll go a little deeper… as we talk about our godlikeness!
