Breath of Heaven

I’ve shared before how the aspirated consonants of God’s name, YHVH (Yod, Hei, Vav, Hei) sound like breathing, especially the letter Hei, which looks like this: ה. In both Hebrew and Christian mysticism, Hei represents the Ruach, the breath of God. As you see, God’s own name contains two Hei’s, which speak of the upper breath and the lower breath, the inhale and the exhale. He breathes out life, and all of creation breathes Him in. And as His gates, we breathe in heaven and breathe out on the earth.

In Genesis 2:7, we see God breathing His breath of life into Adam’s nostrils, causing Adam to become a living being. Then when God visited Abram and Sarai with supernatural life, He changed their names – from Abram (אברם) to Abraham (אברהם) and from Sarai (שרי) to Sarah (שרה). Look closely at this name change in Hebrew. Do you see what was added? The Hei (ה)! God breathed His breath of life into them, resulting in renewed youth, supernatural life and the manifestation of their miracle. Their physical bodies were as good as dead (Hebrews 11:12), so they were totally incapable of producing fruit… until God breathed His Ruach into them!

But what about the Vav in the name of YHVH? It is the sixth letter of the Hebrew alphabet and has a numerical value of six. The pictograph for Vav looks like a tent peg or a nail, and it is typically said to represent a hook. We know that the number of six represents man. So the Vav is basically the connecting force of God, the Divine hook that unites heaven and earth. We see this clearly in the first Vav mentioned in Scripture: Genesis 1:1:

In the beginning God created the heavens and (vav) the earth.

Genesis 1:1

Of course this joining of heaven and earth is perfectly embodied in the God-man, Yeshua, who said, “If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father” (John 14:9). But it also speaks of the sons of God, who are born again of the very DNA of God.

…as He is, so are we in this world.

I John 4:17, NKJV

The Vav represents us and the “earthing out” of God and all spiritual reality in material form, which is, of course, what Yeshua did. It puts the nail in the earth realm and anchors true, spiritual reality there by faith. AS THE BREATH OF GOD FLOWS THROUGH US, WE ANCHOR TRUE SPIRITUALITY WITHIN MATERIALITY BY FAITH. This is why we breathe in YHVH. This is why we breate in heaven and breathe out on the earth.

With this in mind, try meditating upon this truth in your time with the Lord. Pause. Slow down. Breathe. Breathe in His name. Then, with intent, breathe Him out in the earth, remembering that His breath of life changes EVERYTHING!
