In II Kings 3, the king of Israel, the king of Judah and the king of Edom went to war against the king of Moab. The three kings and their armies travelled for 7 days and ended up running out of water. Fearing they may be doomed, they called for the prophet Elijah, who gave them a word from the Lord:
…Dig ditches all over this valley. Here’s what will happen—you won’t hear the wind, you won’t see the rain, but this valley is going to fill up with water and your army and your animals will drink their fill. This is easy for God to do. He will also hand over Moab to you.
-II Kings 3:16-18 MSG
And, of course, it happened exactly as God had said.
It happened in the morning, when the sacrifice was offered, that suddenly water came [miraculously] from the area of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
-II Kings 3:20, AMP
Besides sustaining the people and animals, this miracle water actually won the war. The Moabites saw the red hue of the sun glistening on the water and thought it was the blood of the three kings fighting against each other, so they rushed in to loot the camp and were soundly defeated. A life-threatening situation ended up being the vehicle for a remarkable victory.
From this story, we learn that you may not actually hear your wind or see your rain when your miracle water fills your trenches. So, you must be unmoved by what you hear and see and must remain fixed and focused only on the word of God to you.
Several years ago, a friend told me that he prophesied to a woman that God would give her a baby. The woman was medically unable to have children, but, sure enough, she had not one, but two children. And the amazing thing was that God never actually healed the condition in her physical body. He simply bypassed it. He filled her trenches without any sound of wind or sight of rain!
From Isaiah 11:1-2, we see that even Yeshua, God in the flesh, did not make decisions based on what He saw or heard, but instead leaned upon the Spirit of God, which rested upon Him. He was unmoved by anything but the will of the Father. In the same way, we must be completely unmoved by our senses and our surroundings, refusing to make decisions based on anything but the word of YHVH.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
-I Corinthians 15:58, NKJV
In times of disappointment, it is tempting to doubt the promises of God and to be moved by emotions or circumstances. In times when God’s word is trying you, it can be tempting to yield to the voice of demons, the flesh or others. But the life of Christ operating through the yes in your will enables you to remain steadfast, only moving when He says to move and only doing what He says to do. If He promised, He will bring to fulfillment. Remember, He likes your questions. He loves when you run to Him, not away. Stay in a place where you are willing to hear anything He has to say to you, knowing that His words, unlike the words of others or your own thoughts, automatically release GRACE to obey. They are living, and they are life-giving. Keep the compass of your life fixed on Truth, who, as you know, is a Person!
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
