Presumption & Maturity

Presumption is a natural and appropriate characteristic of a child who trusts:  “Oh, Daddy will take care of me!”

But as we mature, we begin to take on age-appropriate responsibilities, not born of the self-sufficiency connected to fear or pride, but founded on the healthy foundation of trust in and dependence upon our Heavenly Father.  The foundation of our dependence on Him enables us to mature, to co-labor with Him, to rule and reign in His name.  Like the Roman centurion, who was both a man under authority and a man carrying great authority, our submission to God’s authority gives us great authority that we can exercise upon the earth as we fulfill the original mandate:  to subdue the earth, to walk in dominion over His creation.  Our utter dependence upon Him strengthens us to the point where, though we are interdependent with other parts of His body, we are not at the mercy of anyone.  He is the Source of our life, our Sustenance, our Strength.
