Finding Your Starting Place

Perhaps you are in a situation where you can’t even imagine the manifestation of your heart’s desires or the promises of God in your life. If that is where you are, don’t despair. You just need to find your starting place. And there is a starting place!

The first place to start is always to hear specifically what God has to say to you concerning this thing, rather than trying to apply a Biblical truth that is not true for you in your particular situation. In the same way, you must be true to Holy Spirit flowing through your authentic imagination. If your imagination refuses to cooperate, don’t force it. Remain surrendered to God and true to your authentic self and simply go to Holy Spirit and inquire what the blockage is. He is sure to reveal it. I once experienced a situation where I clearly knew the mind of the Father but, no matter how hard I tried, could not imagine it. Finally, I stopped and inquired of Him as to why I was having such difficulty. He revealed that my imagination was blocked by unforgiveness and judgment that I was not even consciously aware of. As soon as I repented, He showed me the starting place for this particular imagination assignment, and I experienced dramatic, external shifts in an amazingly short amount of time.

If you have a promise from God that you simply cannot “see,” you just need to find your starting place. Sometimes that starting place is as simple as choosing with your will to believe the report of the Lord, and then choosing to imagine that promise fulfilled. Other times, it may require Divine strategy. Once I was struggling to imagine myself being the person with my fulfilled desire, because reminders of disappointment were everywhere I looked in my earthly situation, and I could not seem to get past identifying as the person without it. Finally, the Father sent several angels to escort me to the heavenly realm, where it was easier for me to imagine myself being that person. Then, once that reality was firmly established there, I could begin imagining that desire fulfilled within my earthly setting. The heavenly realm was my starting point.

On your imagination journey, even blockages, when they are revealed, can be your starting point. For example, if Holy Spirit reminds you of what the Father has promised you and then you immediately think that you do not have time to purposely imagine it, that can be your starting place. Imagine yourself with plenty of time and your life with a gentle pace, accomplishing all that the Father plans for you each day, including your imagination exercises. If you begin to imagine yourself being one with abundant finances, and you immediately think of your spouse’s irresponsible spending habits, that can be your starting point. Imagine your spouse being a wise and prudent steward of all that God has entrusted to you both. Imagine your spouse having supernatural experiences, where God teaches and transforms him or her. If you’re having trouble imagining the husband or wife that God has promised you, picture you loving, honoring and valuing yourself and those already in your life doing the same. It really doesn’t matter how far back your starting point is… as long as you start!

…hope means that we must trust and wait for what is still unseen. For why would we need to hope for something we already have? –Romans 8:24, TPT

The word translated hope here is Strong’s #G1680, which means “to anticipate with pleasure.” Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, which basically means that hope is the starting point for faith. So… if you are struggling with faith, use hope (anticipating with pleasure – your imagination) as your starting point! This is how your hope, which is fastened in the eternal realm, will anchor your soul, causing it to be firm and steadfast (aman)!

And now we have run into His heart to hide ourselves in His faithfulness. This is where we find his strength and comfort, for He empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time — an unshakeable hope! We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God himself. Our anchor of hope is fastened to the mercy seat which sits in the heavenly realm beyond the sacred threshold, and where Jesus, our forerunner, has gone in before us.
Hebrews 6:18-20, TPT

I hope that this has encouraged your pursuit of those things the Father has placed in your heart. Remember, it really is His good pleasure to give you His kingdom, and He placed His dreams and desires within you with the goal of bringing them to pass – not for you, but with you!

Next week, I will give you some specific, practical keys that will help you learn to create with Him using your imagination.
